Ode to Kurtie Burtie

I want to dedicate this family page to Kurtis. We all miss him so much! He's our brother, son, uncle, and friend and I'm sure that all the people in heaven are so glad to have his company because he's always the life of the party. I'm sure he and President Hinkley are crackin' jokes and having a fun time sharing the gospel with others! We love you Kurtis!

One of my favorite memories of Kurtis The Original is: Kurtis used to call me several times a week from high school to "see what I was doing". During one call he was disgusted with Anna who kept calling him a "Mama's Boy". He said, "Mom, I just had to call you. Anna has been saying that I'm a Mama's Boy, I'm not, right?" I laughed and told him if he had to call and ask, he was definitely a Mama's Boy! Kurtis taught me about unconditional love and seeing to the heart of big spirit. I miss him more than I can say. Love, Mom

Memories from Kelly

When Kurtis was at our first apartment (a little before he passed away) we started to look through my family scrapbook. Kurtis and I laughed at some of the pictures of times passed. It was so nice to have the one on one time with him and for him to take the time to share in something that was so important to me, meant the world.A funny memory I have was when I must have been 6 or 7 years old and kurtis was 8ish ( i think) this is when vicki and kurtis lived in Chateu East apartments. Kurtis and I were wrestling on vicki's waterbed (if my memory serves me correctly i think it was a waterbed) and when kurtis wanted to stop playing around I wanted to antagonize and instagate, after all that was my job:) when kurtis did one of his karate moves on me and my gum fell out of my mouth and into my hair! Vicki had to cut it out.another one i have was when kurtis and i were between 5 and 8 years old, we would frequently spend one night a week with Grandpa and Grandma Shannon. Some nights Grandpa would tell us his infamous stories where we would be the stars of the story..."long, long ago and far, far away, down in the valley, accross the river and into the woods there lived_______. " I can remember crawling around their great big bed (or it seemed at the time) with kurtis. and periodically kurtis would chime into grandpa shannon's story because kurtis wanted to add a sound effect, or to make sure something important was included. Some nights we would go and rent a Shirley Temple movie and we would always get a diet right soda and get to choose one candy bar. I can still remember going to Ray's video with kurtis and Grandpa Shannon to rent the movie.

Memories from Sara

I was thinking about some of my favorite memories with Kurtis and one that I remember fondly, is when we went camping. If I remember correctly, we were all sleeping on a tarp under the stars and Kurtis and I kept on making jokes and laughing and everybody was yelling at us to be quiet and go to sleep, but we just kept on bugging everyone. We thought we were pretty funny, I'm not sure anyone else appreciated it....
Another, more recent memory was when Kurtis was living in Utah. My family and I got to visit Kurtis up in Park City almost every Monday night. It was our family night activity and I was so grateful that we got to spend that time with him. Mackenzie would always be really excited to see him and the dogs that were there of course. Also, Kurtis flew home with Mackenzie, Shelby and I. Ryan, wasn't able to come, and I was so happy that Kurtis could come with us. I don't know what I would have done without his help. I was pretty flustered with a two year old and a newborn and Kurtis just took Shelby and held her the whole time. What a great uncle and brother.
